Boys 2025 Season Info

Tryouts: February 3-6 3:30-5:00

All players must have all athletic clearances before being on the court.

West Park will join the CIF Metro League beginning in the 2024 season.

1. CIF Date Change & Tryouts

  • CIF moved the entire season up by one week.
  • Tryouts: February 3–6, 2025.
  • Spring Sports Parent Night: February 10 (mandatory for Varsity/JV parents).
  • Rosters Announced: Friday, February 7 (Varsity, JV, or players cut).
  • Important: Seniors must make Varsity to remain on the team.

Tryout Expectations
Coach Albert and Coach Spencer will be evaluating players on:

  • Technical Skills: Stroke fundamentals, consistency, footwork
  • Tactical Skills: Shot selection, court awareness, strategy
  • Mental Toughness: How you handle pressure, adapt to challenges, maintain focus
  • Physical Fitness: Agility, stamina, speed on the court
  • UTR Rating: We do consider UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) when assessing overall competitiveness, especially at the Varsity level.

2. Coaching Staff & Season Format

  • Head Coach: Coach Albert | Assistant Coach: Coach Spencer
  • Following the success of the 2024 boys’ season, which advanced to the Section Semifinals, we’re continuing a highly competitive approach. This program is not for beginners looking to learn the basics.
  • We’ll select 12 Varsity players, plus 2–3 alternates in case of injuries/rest. All others will form the JV/Development Team. (JV does not compete in official league matches, but we arrange exhibition play.)
  • Cuts – We tend to keep around 10 players on the JV side, depending on a player and their overall coachability, the strength of our depth chart, and how many tryout, we cut the remaining players.
  • Team format – Generally, the top six play singles, and the other six play doubles. In each league match, each singles plays one match, and each doubles team plays one match.

3. Open Court Sessions (Preseason)

  • We’ll host optional open court sessions before tryouts.
  • You must be fully cleared through Athletic Clearance to participate (no exceptions).
  • These sessions are not part of official tryouts or practices—just an opportunity to sharpen your game.

Main Season Practice Schedule

  • Practices take place every day except Friday, starting from the first day of the season and generally running through early May.

We’re looking forward to another strong season for West Park Boys Tennis and can’t wait to see our Panthers build on last year’s momentum!
